Symantec (Norton) Antivirus Users: Update Immediately

posted by Wharton Computing Student Support on May 17, 2016 in WCIT

In recent days a vulnerability has been identified in Symantec and Norton Antivirus products which, if executed, can crash your computer. If you use Symantec Antivirus (provided free through the University), make sure the LiveUpdate feature is turned on.

Mac/OS X

  1. Open Symantec, either by clicking the shield icon in the menu bar or by launching the program from Applications.
  2. Click LiveUpdate. LiveUpdate should run and install all patches and virus definitions automatically.

Windows

  1. Open Symantec, either by clicking the shield icon in the system tray or by launching the program from the Program Menu.
  2. Click LiveUpdate. LiveUpdate should run and install all patches and virus definitions automatically.

The Student Computing Team is available to help with any problems or questions arising from this, or other, issues.
