COHORT TRADITIONS

In addition to cohort-specific events and activities, each cohort also participates in large-scale traditions, where they compete against other cohorts for points toward the Cohort Cup. Some of the annual traditions are described below.

Scavenger Hunt
This interactive event is held for the freshman cohorts during the first week they arrive. Each cohort is broken up into teams to locate various places and do a variety of activities on Penn's campus.

Winter Whartonland

Thursday, December 10, 2009 from 4 to 7 p.m.
Jay Baker Forum, JMHH

This winter festival celebrates the end of the fall semester, taking place before finals begin. There are various activities, including the Gingerbread House Competition and Broomball Tournament.

Gingerbread House Competition
Cohorts compete against one another to build the most creative and decorative gingerbread house. The judges are comprised of Wharton faculty and staff.

Broomball Tournament
Broomball is like ice hockey except with brooms instead of hockey sticks and without skates! Cohorts compete in teams to play this fun game as part of the Winter Whartonland festivities.

Cohorts Care
Each year, the cohorts participate in a community service activity to give back to West Philadelphia and surrounding areas. This past year's project was to beautify Royal Gardens in Morris Park, West Philadelphia!

Cohort Cup
Each year, the nine cohorts compete for the coveted Cohort Cup.  Students from all four years earn points for their cohorts through friendly competitions such as  the freshman scavenger hunt, junior case competition, and sporting events.  The cohort with the most points at the end of the academic year wins the Cohort Cup and is invited to a reception in their honor.
