COHORT OVERVIEW

Mission
The undergraduate cohort system seeks to build community for Wharton undergraduate students, within and among class years, through social, co-curricular, and community service activities.

The Cohort Experience
Upon arrival in the fall, every Wharton freshman is placed in one of nine cohorts comprised of approximately 60 students each. Freshman year, students take two courses with their cohort, Management 100: Leadership and Communication in Groups in the fall and BPUB 250: Managerial Economics in the spring.

In addition to these courses, there are a variety of events planned for each cohort. Students have a chance to meet people within their cohort from their class year as well as from other class years. This horizontal and vertical integration of students expands each student's personal and professional network while at Wharton and beyond.

The Cohort Cup
Each year, the nine cohorts compete for the coveted Cohort Cup.  Students from all four years earn points for their cohorts through friendly competitions such as  the freshman scavenger hunt, junior case competition, and sporting events.  The cohort with the most points at the end of the academic year wins the Cohort Cup and is invited to a reception in their honor.

History
The cohort system premiered in the fall of 2006. The 2009-2010 academic year will be the first time that all four class years will be cohorted.
