Outlook Live


What is Outlook Live?

Outlook Live is the email portion of our Microsoft Wharton Live services. Outlook Live is an Exchange mail account that allows you to to access your mailbox from any computer with a web browser or Microsoft Outlook 2007. You can read and send emails, organize your contacts, tasks, and calendar, drag and drop messages in folders, IM users directly from an email message, and see your emails in a coversation view.

Who uses Outlook Live

  • MBA Class of 2011 -- except Lauder students
  • Undergraduate Class of 2013

All other students are welcome to request to switch from their current Wharton email account to an Outlook Live account.

Supported Browsers for Outlook Live

  • Internet Explorer 7 or 8
  • Mozilla Firefox3.0.1 or higher
  • Apple Safari 3.1 or higher

Note: For access to Outlook Live's complete set of features you need to use Internet Explorer. Most features are supported in Firefox and Safari. For a complete list of what is supported in each web browser click here .

Activating your Live account

Before you can access your Outlook Live, you must activate your account first by clicking here


Outlook Live Features

  • Messages
    • In addition to reading and sending email messages, you can add attachments or request receipts when a message is read or delivered.  You can also create categories and folders to organize your messages. 
  • Calendar
    • You can customize your calendar by creating attachments, appointments, reminders, and meetings.  When you set up a meeting, you send an invitation to other people who will then receive an email with the details of the meeting.
  • Contacts and Groups
    • The Contacts folder is like an address book with an entry for each person or group that you use to store information about. 
    • Groups allow you to create a single entry that includes multiple contacts.  When you send an email to a group, it goes to every contact in the group.
  • Chat
    • You can use your Contact List to chat with your friends, just as you would use MSN Messenger or any instant messaging service.

 

Accessing your account in Outlook Live

Webmail

You can access your account using one of the web browser's listed above. To access your account follow the instructions below.

  1. Go to http://outlook.com
  2. Sign in using your Wharton account information

    1. Window Live ID: username@wharton.upenn.edu (replace username with your Wharton username)
    2. Password: Your Wharton password


Outlook 2007

Outlook 2007 is the preferred and supported mail client for Outlook Live in Exchange mode. To access your Outlook Live mailbox follow the instructionsl listed below

  • Exchange Mode : allows you to access your email, calendar, contact and tasks items (recommended configuration)

Email Forwarding

To forward your Outlook Live account to another email account follow the instructions below.

  1. Go to SPIKE (http://spike.wharton.upenn.edu) and login with your Wharton account
  2. Click the My Account tab
  3. Then the Forward or Unforward My Email link
  4. In the "Your Preferred Destination for Your E-mail" field type in other accounts email address
  5. Then click the Change E-mail Forwarding button


Smartphone Access

You can configure your Smartphone to access your Outlook Live account.

Quota Overview

To find your mailbox limit, click Mail in the navigation pane.  Point to your name at the top of the Mail folder list.  A window will appear to show the current size of your mailbox.
