Configure Your Windows Laptop To Access Wharton Printers


Configure your Windows laptop to access the Wharton printers by doing the following:

Step 1: Download and Install the Print Queue Applications

Step 2: Send A Document to the Print Queue
    • Send a document to the Print queue by choosing File and print.
    • Select the type of printer you want to print to, either Huntsman BW or Huntsman-color and click Print.
    • A popup window will appear asking for your Wharton ID, enter your Wharton username.
Step 3: Print to A Wharton Printer

To print a document to a Wharton printer, do the following:

  1. Send A Document to the Print Queue:
    • Choose Print from the File menu of your application and select either huntsman_bw (for black and white printing)or huntsman_color (for color printing). Jobs sent to the black and white or color print queues are held for 1 hour and can be released from any black and white or color printer respectively.
    • A popup window will appear asking for your Wharton ID, enter your Wharton username.

  2. Print Out Your Document on a Wharton Printer:
    • Go to the printer you would like to print to. For a list of locations, see Wharton printer locations.
    • Click the "Print Release" button on the printer touch screen.
    • Swipe your Penn card.
      Note: After swiping your card, it may take a few seconds for the printer to display the print queue.
    • Select the document you want to print and click the Print button. If there are multiple jobs in the print queue that you would like to print, click the Print All button.
    • From the "Select A Document" screen, you can view your print account balance. To view details about your print account, click the Account button.

Configure Your Macintosh Laptop To Access Wharton Printers

Configure your Macintosh laptop to access the Wharton printers by doing the following:

Step 1: Install the Print Queue Applications

To install the print queue application for Mac OS X, obtain the installer and run it:

  1. Download the print queue application.
  2. If it the file does not expand automatically, choose the option to Expand the File.
  3. Double-click the popup2.dmg file to create a new disk image in Finder.
  4. Double-click the popup.pkg file to begin the installation.
  5. Go through the Installation wizard accepting the defaults, you will be requested to enter your computer's log in credentials.
  6. After the installation has been completed, follow the steps below to add the Wharton print queues to your computer.
Step 2: Add Wharton Print Queues

To start printing to the Wharton printers on your Mac, add the Wharton print queues by following the instructions below that correspond with your computer's operating system (OS) and version. You will need to follow these instructions twice in order to be able to print to both black and white, and color print queues.

For Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger):

  1. Open the Printer Setup Utility in Applications/Utilities.
  2. Click the Add button in the toolbar.
  3. Hold down the Option key on the keyboard and click the More Printers... button.
  4. Select Advanced from the popup button.
  5. From the Device popup button, select Pharos Print Server.
  6. In the Device Name field, enter a name for the new printer queue.
  7. In the Device URI field type the following:
    • For the black and white print queue, type "popup://escher.wharton.upenn.edu/huntsman_laptop_bw".
    • For the color print queue, type "popup://escher.wharton.upenn.edu/huntsman_laptop_color".
  8. From the Printer Model popup button, select HP.
  9. Search and select HP Laserjet 9040 9050 MFP from the list.
  10. Click Add. The Wharton print queue will now show up in the list of printers.
  11. Click the "Show Info" button. From the drop-down menu select Installable Options.
  12. Select Duplex Unit and click Apply Changes button.
  13. Repeat steps 2-11 to configure each Wharton print queue (Black & Whiteand Color) on your laptop

For Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard), the process is similar:

  1. Open System Preferences and click on the Print & Fax icon.
  2. Click the + button.
  3. Hold down the Control key on the keyboard and click anywhere on the toolbar.
  4. From the popup menu that appears, select Customize Toolbar....
  5. Drag the Advanced icon to the toolbar and close the customization dialog.
  6. Click on the Advanced button in the toolbar.
  7. From the Type popup button, select Pharos Print Server.
  8. In the URL field type the following:
    • For the black and white print queue, type "popup://escher.wharton.upenn.edu/huntsman_laptop_bw".
    • For the color print queue, type "popup://escher.wharton.upenn.edu/huntsman_laptop_color".
  9. In the Name field, enter a name for the new printer queue. Such as Huntsman_laptop_bw.
  10. From the Print Using popup button, select "Select a driver to use..".
  11. In the search box type HP Laserjet 9040 and select HP Laserjet 9040 9050 MFP from the list. If the desired printer is not available, selecting "Generic Post Script Printer" will work in most cases.
  12. Click Add.
  13. On the Installable Options screen select Duplex Unit and click Continue.
  14. The new Wharton print queue will now show up in the list of printers.
  15. Repeat steps 2-11 to configure each Wharton print queue (Black & White, Color and Study.Net) on your laptop

Study.Net for Macs

  1. Open System Preferences and click on the Print & Fax icon.
  2. Click the + button.
  3. Hold down the Control key on the keyboard and click anywhere on the toolbar.
  4. From the popup menu that appears, select Customize Toolbar....
  5. Drag the Advanced icon to the toolbar and close the customization dialog.
  6. Click on the Advanced button in the toolbar.
  7. From the Type popup button, select Pharos Print Server.
  8. In the URL field type the following:
    • popup://escher.wharton.upenn.edu/studynet_laptop
  9. In the Name field, enter a name for the new printer queue. Such as Huntsman_studynet.
  10. For Print Using, select Generic PostScript Printer
  11. Click Add.
  12. On the Installable Options screen select Duplex Unit and click Continue.
  13. The Study.Net print queue will now show up in the list of printers.

Step 3: Print to A Wharton Printer

To print a document to a Wharton printer, do the following:

  1. Send A Document to the Print Queue:
    • Choose Print from the File menu of your application and select either huntsman_bw (for black and white printing)or huntsman_color (for color printing).
