Wharton Accounts

Getting an account

To use e-mail and other computing resources you must have a Wharton Computing Account. Accounts for incoming Wharton students are generated using the Early Account Program. Accounts will be available in the middle of May (for MBA students) and in the middle of June (for Undergraduate students).

Wharton Evening School, and Transfer students can create an account online using our Account Creation program. Accounts will be available in the middle of May. PhD students should contact the IT Support representative from their department to obtain an account.

Non-Wharton students taking a Wharton class can apply for an account online using our Account Creation program. You must have a current Penn ID card to obtain an account. The account will be valid only for the duration of the class.

Account access rights and privileges

Your account gives you access to e-mail, computing labs and workstations, software and data resources, and network printing. You are given a certain amount of disk space for your account. Your e-mail resides in your account, as do any files you need to keep on the Wharton network.

Account passwords

Changing Your Password
Change your password if you think it's been compromised. It's not a bad idea to change it every few months. Never send your password in an e-mail and don't divulge it if someone asks you for it -- a Wharton Computing administrator would never ask for your password.

Resetting Your Password
If you do not know your password and need to reset it, you will need to follow one of the procedures below:

  • If you have participated in the Password Reset Challenge Response option, you can reset your password online. You will need to have signed up for this ahead of time and answered a series of questions which will be used to identity you during the reset process.
For more information about this option, please visit the Challenge Response webpage at: https://apps.wharton.upenn.edu/accounts/challengeresponse/.
  • If you were unable to use the method listed above to reset your password online, you will need to come to the Student Support Office in F35 JMHH with a valid Penn ID card to have your password reset. For security reasons, passwords cannot be changed or divulged over the phone, by e-mail, or by fax.
