Uninstalling Antivirus Software
When uninstalling an antivirus program for any reason, it is important to uninstall ALL components
of the program. To do this follow these simple instructions.
Uninstalling older versions of Symantec Anti-Virus
- Click Start, Control Panel.
- Choose 'Classic View' if not already choosen.
- Double click on the Program and Features Icon (Vista) or the Add/Remove Programs icon (Win XP).
- Within the Programs and Features or Add/Remove Programs window, you may see two components of the Symantec Antivirus program, Live Update and Symantec Antivirus. If you find both components, you will need to be remove both entries.
- Select LiveUpdate.
- Click on Uninstall (Vista) or Change/Remove (WinXP).
- When asked if you are sure that you want to remove LiveUpdate, click Yes.
- A progress bar will appear and LiveUpdate will be removed from your computer.
- When the LiveUpdate has been uninstalled successfully, Click OK to exit.
- Select the entry that says Symantec Antivirus Client
- Click on Uninstall (Vista) or Change/Remove (WinXP).
- When asked if you are sure you want to remove Symantec AntiVirus Client, click Yes
- A progress bar will appear while the software components are being removed. Be patient, this may take a minute or so.
- When Symantec AntiVirus Client has been removed the program will ask to restart the computer.
Select Yes. If you are not prompted to reboot, do so anyway.
*Note that depending on which version of Norton Antivirus you currently have installed on your
machine, either of the entries may be named slightly different than appear in the directions above.
- Once the computer reboots the uninstall procedure is complete.
Other Antivirus Software
- Click Start, Control Panel.
- Choose 'Classic View' if not already choosen.
- Double click on the Control Panel icon.
- Double click Programs and Features (Vista) or Add/Remove Programs WinXP) .
- Within the that window, you will need to find any programs related to your specific antivirus program and select the
Remove option.
- When the Antivirus program has been removed, the program will ask you to restart the computer. Once the computer reboots
the uninstall procedure is complete.
