Wharton Computing Account Closing Information

Class of 2009: Congratulations on your upcoming graduation!

If you are not graduating, please send mail to support@wharton.upenn.edu and let us know your correct status.

One of the things you will need to know over the next few months is date that your Wharton Computing Account will be closing.

The following is a list that details when each service will end:

Access Ends on or before July 31, 2009

  • Unix server (students.wharton.upenn.edu)
  • WRDS

Access Ends Oct 1, 2009

  • webCafé: deadline for all remaining course rooms
  • Wharton E-Mail Account
  • Blackberry Enterprise Service

For more information on webCafé access after graduation please see the following Help & FAQ article: http://supportcenteronline.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=658&task=knowledge&questionID=151

Access Ends Dec. 31, 2009

  • Wharton Inside
  • SPIKE
  • Facebook
  • PennName@wharton

Please note this program does not extend to University services. While your PennKey will continue to allow you access to Penn In Touch, other University services such as access to University-wide licensed software and the Library will not be available after July 31, 2009.

PennName@wharton -- Please note that your username@wharton -- known as your "PennName" -- will no longer be active after December 31, 2009. Before December 31 you will need to make sure your personal and business contacts are aware of your change of address, and beginning with Graduation you should begin using your Lifelong email address to forward your Wharton email to a personal or business email account.

As an alumni student of Wharton, don't forget about the wide web of resources provided by the Wharton Alumni Network for the rest of your life! See http://www.whartonconnect.com for more information about the host of services provided through the Alumni network, including the online Alumni directory.

There are certain things you may want to take care of now, even though your account will remain open until October 1, 2009. These include the following:

  • Forward Your Email
To set your forwarding to another email account, launch Spike http://spike.wharton.upenn.edu and click on the My Account tab . From there, click on the link to 'Forward or Unforward My Email' and follow the directions provided.
  • Save Your Messages
If you want to keep any existing email messages for future reference, you have two options. They are:
    • Forward Your Email Messages
You can forward your existing email messages that are in your account to a personal account or to your lifelong email address.
Note: If you decide to forward your messages to your lifelong email address, make sure you have set it to forward to somewhere other than your Wharton account.
Please note: You will not be able to forward mail in bulk so you may need to allow extra time for this step depending on your mailbox size.
    • Save Your Messages to an Outlook Personal (.pst) File
If you would like to store your messages in a .pst file, please remember that this file will be stored on your personal computer. For instructions on how to create .pst files, see the following document: Creating Personal Folders in Microsoft Outlook.
Please note: This is the easiest way of taking a copy of your entire account or bulk saving mail messages.
  • Mailing Lists
    • If you have not already done so, unsubscribe from any mailing lists that you are on.
Until October 1, 2009, you can use SPIKE to see which mailing lists you are currently on and to unsubscribe yourself. See the "My Mailing List" section of My Account.
    • Transfer ownership of any mailing list(s) you may own.
To change the ownership of mailing lists for which you're currently the owner, send e-mail to support@wharton.upenn.edu, with the name of the mailing list and the name and e-mail address of the new list owner.

Remember, your Wharton e-mail account will be closing on October 1, 2009. If you have not already done so, you will need to have completed the tasks listed above by then.
