Global Immersion Program

The Wharton Global Immersion Programs (GIP) are designed to provide MBA students with an in-depth exposure to the business environment of a significant global market, thus better preparing you for a career in the world economy. All in all, a total of 12 countries will be visited by GIP participants this year. Based on information gathered during pre-term, GIP will offer study tours in 2008-09 to five regions (see below). The programs in Greater China, South America, and Southeast Asia are 0.5cu electives (MGMT656) and the programs in Africa and India are quarter-credit (MGMT899).

  • Southeast Asia ( Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore)
  • Greater China (Hong Kong, Guangzhou/Shenzhen, Shanghai/Pudong/Suzhou, Beijing/Tianjin)
  • South America (Santiago or Bogotá, Buenos Aires, São Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro)

In concert with the Wharton India Club and the Wharton Africa Students Association, students also travelled to:

  • Africa (Ghana, Egypt, South Africa)
  • India (Bangalore, Mumbai, New Delhi)

Each regional group will include 40 students (there are 80 space in the Greater China trip). The overall objectives of each program are:

  • to provide an understanding of the region's business, cultural and political environments
  • to achieve a working knowledge of regional business practices through direct interaction with managers, employees and government officials
  • to explore the value of different economic models as benchmarks for global business practices
  • to promote intercultural awareness and communication skills
