Student Recognition

Students, faculty and administration nominate first and second year students and one member of the faculty/administration to recognize individuals who have shown dedication to the Wharton community. 

A description of each award is below.

The 2007-2008 Wharton School Student Award Winners (all are WG '07 unless otherwise indicated) :

  • Class of 2001 Leadership Award ($2,500 awarded to recipient) – This award is funded by a grant made possible by the members of the Wharton MBA Class of 2001. The award is presented to the student in the graduating MBA class who most exemplifies the spirit of Wharton in terms of leadership, teamwork, scholarship, and service. 2007-2008: Hendi Susanto
  • Thomas P. Gerrity Leadership Award – This award is presented to a graduating MBA student who has achieved excellence in both academic and co-curricular pursuits. 2007-2008: Steve Fanning
  • Joseph P. Wharton Award for Leadership and Innovation – As the first collegiate business school, founded in 1881, The Wharton School itself is the essence of innovation, leadership and vision. The Joseph P. Wharton Award honors the student who best exemplifies this spirit that distinguishes so well The Wharton School and its graduates. 2007-2008: Prasad Thammineni
  • The Patrick T. Harker Wharton Way Award – Wharton is a community of individuals involved in activities spanning all the domains of their lives. Involvement of students in school and community activities is not just something that is offered Wharton, it is expected. The Wharton Way Award proudly honors a first and second year student who best exemplifies this tradition of service, participation, and involvement through their activities at The Wharton School. This award is also known as “The Wharton Sleep Deprivation Award.” 2007-2008: Matt Lattman (WG '08), Nisha Thomas, Jordan Bookey, and Dan Kessler
  • Paul Green Award for Knowledge Creation – Many students are engaged in the noble activity of research and knowledge creation, with the goal of providing valuable information for tomorrow’s business, political, and community leaders. Named after Wharton’s own Paul Green, Professor of Marketing and father of conjoint analysis, The Paul Green Award honors the second year student who has most contributed to the world’s knowledge bank. 2007-2008: Lachlan McLean
  • Ben Franklin Spirit of Philadelphia Award – Our location in Philadelphia, the cradle of democracy, is a source of great pride and distinction for Wharton. The Ben Franklin award recognizes one first and one second year Wharton student who have most contributed to our beloved city. 2007-2008: Eric Redline (WG '08) and Zach Ventress
  • Wharton Graduate Division Award for 1st Year Leadership – Recognizes the first year student who has made the most valuable contribution to his or her classmates’ overall learning experience. Jay Dearborn
  • Wharton Administration “Whatever It Takes Award” – The qualities of creativity, leadership, and innovation describe not only the students at The Wharton School, but also faculty and administration. This award is reserved for the member of the Wharton administration who has most gone above and beyond the call of duty in his or her respective area to ensure Wharton remains the best MBA program in the world. 2007-2008: Charles Johnson
