Configuring An IMAP Account in Outlook 2003
If you have an email account onWharton's exchange server, and are using Outlook 2003, you will probably
want to configure an Exchange Server account so that
you can take advantage of such advanced features as online calendaring and contacts.
However, if you are not interested in those features, you can configure your account
using IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol).
Configuring an IMAP account in Outlook 2003 For Wharton
If you have never configured an email account in Outlook, the New Profile window will launch automatically. Type in a suitable name for your Wharton mail profile.
Then follow the instructions below for Creating an Email Account.
If the New Profile window does not launch or you have already configured an
email account in Outlook 2003, launch the Email Accounts wizard by selecting
Email Accounts from the Tools menu.

Once the Email Accounts wizard starts:
- Select Add a new email account from the Email section and
click Next to continue.
- Select IMAP as the Server Type and
click Next to continue.
- Configure your Internet Email Settings (IMAP) by entering the following:
- In the User Information category:
- Enter your name as you want it displayed in your emails in the Your Name field.
- Enter your Wharton email address in the E-mail Address field. You can use your lifelong e-mail address (eg: joseph.wharton.wg81@wharton.upenn.edu) or the shorter address consisting of your username
followed by @wharton.upenn.edu (eg: josephw@wharton.upenn.edu).
- In the Server Information category:
- Enter owa.wharton.upenn.edu in the Incoming mail server (IMAP) field.
- In the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) field, enter owa.wharton.upenn.edu.
- In the Login Information category, enter your Wharton username and password. When you
type your username, you will need to enter it in the following format:
Wharton/username. If you are sure
that you are the only person that will be accessing your computer system,
you can leave the Remember password box checked.
- Click the More Settings button
(if your account is on the Key Server you must follow the steps below).
- Click the Advanced tab.
- In the Incoming Server (IMAP) section, put a check in the
This server requires a secure connection (SSL) box.
- Click on the Outgoing Server tab and put a check in the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication box and select
Use same settings as my incoming mail server.
- Click the OK button to close the Internet Email Settings box.
- Click Next to continue.
- Click Finish on the final Congratulations screen.
If necessary, click Close to close the Email Accounts window.
You should now be able to use Outlook for your Wharton e-mail.
